PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING CITIZENSHIP

Depending on the amount of investment, the law provides for two deadlines for filing an application for citizenship: after 1 or 3 years. In both cases, the procedure is similar — only the requirement for documents is different if the investor chooses to apply after 3 years.

Internal due diligence

Police clearance certificate

Collecting documents for the eligibility test

Submitting an application for due diligence - Eligibility Test. The maximum period for submission is 12 months from the date of receipt of residence permit cards.

All applicants over 12 years of age are tested.

Review and approval

The Minister of Citizenship approves or rejects the applications. If the verification is passed, applicants become eligible to apply for citizenship 1 or 3 years after receiving a residence permit in Malta.

Applying for citizenship

1 or 3 years after the residence permit

If the application is submitted after 1 year, then the applicant confirms whether there have been significant changes in personal circumstances.

For example, in the case of a serious illness, you need to make changes to the MRQ form.

Suppose the application is submitted after 3 years. In that case, you need to confirm the permanent address of residence and update the police clearance certificate.

If other documents have been updated, they must also be resubmitted.
